Beowulf and Grendel

Watched the movie last night on DVD.
It's a retelling of the Beowulf saga ... with a non-violence theme.

...

sigh

Beowulf... Grendel... NON-VIOLENCE THEME? That's just wrong.

I was looking at that DVD tonight. Glad I didn't buy it.

Exactly.

If you're wanting manly, heroic, let's-ride-out-and-kill-the-monster action ... go watch "The Thirteenth Warrior."

Beowulf ... non-violent ... what the hell is this world coming to?

It's not the worst movie I've ever seen, but it drags all the way through. I'd like to be able to say it had its "cool" moments, but it really doesn't.

On the plus side, the scenery was great, as was the wardrobe.

But Beowulf is a "thinking" warrior in this one.

--shudder--

I think you should go find the makers and tear their arms off!

Why tear off arms when you can slice them off with a really big sword? Go ahead, Kron.

Anon: If you answer a Zornhau with Cron, you'll most likely lose your head, not your arm.

Z, I almost would have thought you were making that up, except I know what a zornhau is.

What's a Cron? Some kind of swing or block?

Pardon, Zornhau. I generally presume our blog host will attribute any annoying behaviors, including anonymous posts, to me.
I've also encountered the term zornhau, but never cron. Please elucidate.
Thanks. -gere

LOL.
Zornhau is a diagonal blow. Very effective - can't duck it, can't sidestep it, and has the power of the body behind it.

Kron is a guard. Hold the sword in front pointing more or less straight up, your crossguard protecting your head.

Kron works a treat against a downwards blow - catch the blade on your cross, grab the wrists, push up, pivot in and twat the other chap with your pommel.

However, if I threw a Zornhau, and you lifted your sword into Kron, I'd probably get you in the head without taking a scratch.
