I'm curious to know if you're getting any hits on these Kindle offers?

Paul, it's weird, and I really have no way to judge it. Sometimes I go a week and sell only 2 or 3 books. Other times, I'll sell about a hundred or so in just a couple of days. It's really all over the place, and I'm not sure why. My sales over at Smashwords are about the same, though I sell best on the Kindle. I also use Scribd and Mobipockets, but they don't work at all for me.

Also, "Sever," my collection of 5 short stories outsells all my other ebooks combined. Not sure why, though perhaps horror draws a broader audience than fantasy.

OK, I have been checking out your book (#1 in the series) and may still purchase it, but it is all supposed to be in italics? I would assume not, so are you going to fix it?

Are you going to put the books up on Smashwords, so that non-Kindle owners can read them? If you can get into their premium catalog, that gets you into the B&N store and Sony's. Also, their style guide might help a bit with formatting (and you can download the book to see how it looks, rather than blindly guessing, as you do on Kindle if you don't own one).

Hey Karen, thanks for letting me know. My download for Kindle doesn't appear in italics, but I'll check out the coding to see what needs fixed. You're the first reader or potential reader to point this out to me.

And all my books are available over at Smashwords, including free partial reads.

Thanks!

Karen and others, I have corrected the italics in the first book, City of Rouges. The new version has been upload, however, it might take Amazon a few days to make the new version available. Please let me know in a few days if the book is okay now.

Also, can anyone let me know if the chapter links are working in City of Rogues? I've heard yes and no.

As you probably found, it looks like a "close italics" command was missing between the TOC and the start of the book. If I went to the cover, then jumped to the start, the issue went away, but paging thru left me in italics for several chapters. In Book I, at least, the TOC is not active (for the Kindle version). The sample from Smashword has not TOC at all (and the first page is just the text "-1" intead of a cover).

Since you are on Smashwords, I suspect your best route for proper formatting is to get it right there, then just copy the Mobi file to your Kindle DTP site (rather than let Amazon do any conversion).

Karen, thanks for the tips. I've been doing it the other way around, Kindle first and then Smashwords second.

Ty,

You seem to be missing an OF in chapter 4 --- "having been hung on the sides buildings facing the North River."

Karen, thanks for the note. Please let me know if you see anything else needing corrected, and I'll hop to it as soon as Amazon let's me have access to the files again (the files are tied up after I recently fixed the italics).
